This is part of my growing series of "Us vs Them". Created during my 2022 and 2024 workshop-in-residence in Sorano, all four vases were slab-built, joint, cut and burnished. One half received naked raku, and the other "Obvara". Obvara is also known as the Baltic Raku, which originated in Eastern Europe in the 12th century. Similar to Raku firing, a bisqued piece is taken out of the (gas) kiln red hot and dunked into a yeasty juice then cooled in water. The organic patterns are sealed within a blink of the eye.
